Abstract

The article examines the experience of civic education of the EU countries, the problem of education in the process of forming citizenship, patriotic and respectful attitude towards their language, nation, homeland and culture. Also, the article indicates the role of the family and school in the civic education of the younger generation. It is determined that: in many countries there is a direct link between civic education and upbringing; in the process of developing democracy, «patriotic education» has been transformed into a «civic formation» based on the rights and freedoms of a man and a citizen. Ukraine has stable relations and partnerships with European countries, with neighboring countries (Bulgaria, Poland, Slovakia, Czech Republic) and the leading countries of the European Union (Great Britain, Italy, Germany, Norway, France, Sweden, Finland, etc.), where the educational directions today are the most relevant, the patriotic and civic education of the student youth are the key to the system of national priorities. Love for their country, respect for its traditions, is instilled in children through active propaganda of state symbols through the media, various civil society institutions, including schools, universities, youth associations, scout organizations, etc. Most countries see a close link between upbringing and civic and patriotic education. As a result of the democratization of political life and the deepening of the integration processes between countries, the concept of patriotism has been somewhat revised, its education has been replaced by the formation of citizenship - a new integrative quality of the individual, which promotes the socialization of young people in the modern world. The objectives of this area of education can be identified as education in student youth harmonious manifestation of patriotic feelings, a sense of dignity and inner freedom, tolerance, humanism, discipline and respect for state power.
