Abstract

The article deals with the main modern approaches to foreign language education in pedagogical universities of Ukraine. Considerable attention is paid to considering the positive and negative aspects of each approach; the basic provisions and necessary components of linguistic- linguistic, communicative-ethnographic and socio-cultural approaches are systematized. The linguistic study approach is characterized by the study of language as a carrier and a source of national-cultural semantics. An important achievement of the communicative and ethnographic approach is the recognition of the need to provide those who study foreign languages systematized knowledge of culture, philosophy, religion, history of the country, the language of which is being studied. The content of socio-cultural education includes the study of such aspects as: cultural heritage, mentality, cultural identity of representatives of communities whose language is studied. It is difficult to imagine a modern educated person without knowledge of a foreign language. Foreign languages have become an integral part of our lives. Thanks to the development of the latest technologies and the participation of Ukraine in the Bologna process, approaches to foreign language education in higher education institutions are constantly changing and improving. However, the issue of modern approaches to foreign language education in Ukrainian pedagogical universities remains to be seen, as scientists and educators pay more attention to the analysis and systematization of more established approaches.
