Abstract
The content of the performing and artistic component of the rhetorical culture of the modern teacher is considered in the article. It is proved that skills of effective presentation of educational and scientific materials during lessons, some extracurricular activities, lectures, and scientific conferences are important in the professional activity of the modern teacher-orator. Some stages of the research of professionally essential qualities of the orator in the history of rhetoric are considered. It is proved that the orators of Ancient Greece and Rome paid much attention to the study of this problem. Their research formed the basis of Ukrainian rhetoric, which reached its highest prosperity in the 17th and 18th century, due to fruitful work of teachers and rhetoricians of Kyiv Mohyla Academy. Leading elements of the performing and artistic component of the teacher (the skill of public speaking, the speaker’s artistry, the technique and the logic of speech, nonverbal means of communication, the ability to improvise, the oratorical image) are determined based on the analysis of achievements of speakers of the past and modern speakers. The need for their development by means of oratory, theatre pedagogy with the aim of achieving better results in teachers’ professional activities is proved. Rhetorical methods of winning and keeping attention of the student audience for a long time are described in the article. Practical aspects of effective public speaking, namely means of capturing and maintaining of the attention of the audience, methods of influence on the emotional state of listeners as well as ways to involve them in active dialogue, are presented. Special attention is paid to such important elements in the professional activity of teacher-speaker like appearance, manner of speech, natural behavior in front of the audience and his charisma, which allow to create original oratory image. According to the author, the modern teacher should be a bright personality who possesses a well-developed rhetorical culture, through which he is entering a qualitatively new level of professional activity. The need for the use of achievements of the rhetoric in the process of enhancing of verbal skills of modern teachers is stressed.
