Abstract
In the article, the challenge of the learning strategies choice in the schools of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland was covered. In accordance with the research results a conclusion on the effectiveness of that or another learning strategies was made. First of all, it was found that the choice of the forms and the methods of learning is dependent on the purpose of the lesson or the suggested activity. It means that it is proper to distinguish four different groups of learning activities whereas each group is suitable for the formation of that or another skills only. Taking into consideration the research results the author puts a special emphasis on the most effective ways of teaching secondary school pupils, namely, visualizing the vocabulary content by using flashcards and proposing children some game activities. Besides it, in the article, some examples of the most motivating and inspiring exercises that can be made by pupils in the classroom are represented. The educational principles which are the most commonly used in the British teachers’ practice were analyzed, as well. They include the following ones: using the target language for the class instructions and mimics or gestures while teaching junior schoolchildren, following the certain lesson sequence (preparation stage, academic purposes presentation and the brief review of the studied material, work on the academic material, and making conclusions on the lesson), giving the home assignment for the children not in the end of the lesson but in any part of it, etc.
