Abstract

The state of study of historical, pedagogical and book-learning literature which is connected with the illustrating aspect of school textbooks in the second half of the XX century is analysed in the article. Works of domestic and foreign authors, legislative documents which regulated the development of education in Ukraine in a probed period, are analysed. A division into periods of the outlined problem research is made. The second half of the XX century was marked by the greatest activity of scientists in the research of school textbook problems among which a lot of questions concerning its illustrating were considered: substantiation of illustration role in a textbook; classification of visual images by different signs; determination of requirements to creation and use of illustrations; acknowledgement of illustrative material as an important component of textbook’s structure and others. The retroperspektiv analysis of experience of the given problem solving enable us to understand it better, to avoid errors in its solving on the modern stage, to use positive acquisitions of the past in subsequent practice of making textbooks.
