Abstract

The term «rating» is analyzed. The main criteria and indicators while compiling of university rankings are determined. The most authoritative world (Webometrics rating, Shanghai ranking, Academic Raking, Times Raking) and national rankings («Compass», «Top-200 Ukraine», SciVerse Scopus, according to the magazine «Correspondent») of universities are characterized. There are analyzed the criteria that are used in compiling various rankings, including: the ARWU ranking is built on the quality of education, effectiveness of research, so-called «Аcademic density» of University; Times Ranking, (THES – QS World University Rankings) based on: image in an academic environment, assessing the quality of education of graduates by employers, citation index of scientific works of employees, share of foreign students and foreign teachers, the ratio of students to the number of teachers; Webometrics Ranking is calculated according to the following indicators: the number of printed Web pages; the number of exposed files in pdf, ps, doc and pps; the number of articles that are in the Google Scholar Database; the total number of external links. The criteria of forming the Ukrainian higher educational institutions rankings are characterized, particular: the rating «Compass» is formed on the assessment of employers, experts, graduates; cooperation between higher education institutions and employers; ranking of higher education institutions for scientometric database SciVerse Scopus is based on the results of the search interface Scopus Affiliation Search; ranking according to magazine «Correspondent» is determined by the best and most successful employers; main criteria for ranking «Top-200 Ukraine» is the quality of scientific and pedagogical potential; quality of education; international recognition.
