Abstract

In the modern world, global social, political and economic changes are taking place in society. The strengthening of the role of international relations, the emergence of interest in national roots, the awakening of national consciousness of peoples, actualize the need for highly cultured modern specialists. In the global educational practice, with the creation of the European higher education area, educational institutions are undergoing a significant transformation, which leads to the emergence of a new paradigm of teaching and learning. The competence approach plays a key role in this process. There is a change in priorities, the cultural component of education is strengthened, and a new ideal of a student as person of culture" with general cultural competence appears. It is the general cultural competence that determines the active life of a person, his/her ability to navigate in various spheres of social and professional life, harmonizes the inner world and relations with society. The article provides an essential analysis of the content and structure the general cultural competence of students of humanitarian specialties. The basic concepts of the research problem, the role of modern education for the formation of the general cultural competence of future specialists, the place of value orientations and spirituality in cultural education are revealed, which highlights the basic components of the general cultural competence. The available research reveals various aspects of the organization and content of the process of formation of the general cultural competence of students and forms a scientific and theoretical basis for further study of this issue. On the basis of the conclusions made, the author suggests the actual direction of further research, namely the didactic potential of the humanities for the formation of the general cultural competence of students.
Theoretical significance of the study contributes to the pedagogical concept of the quality of higher education, deepens scientific ideas about the structure of the educational process in higher education institutions focused on the effective formation of the general cultural competence of students and their life experience, thereby providing targeted cultural development of the individual.
