Abstract
The article deals with the topical issues concerning the formation of a scientific picture of the world in the applicants of general secondary education. One of its segments is the geographic picture of the world, which makes it possible to perceive on a personal level the processes occurring in the surrounding natural environment and society. The role of a personality-competent education in the plan of formation of a scientific picture of the world of pupils of institutions of general secondary education and in terms of improving the quality of geographical education is singled out.
The article focuses on the fact that the scientific picture of the world, due to its functions - reflecting and system-forming, plays a role of a peculiar basis for scientific research, and thus is one of the important ways for each person to know the reality through the portal of education. In the article it is noted that under the personality-competent and activity development of pupils in the process of studying geography in institutions of general secondary education we understand:
1) acquiring by the applicants the educational experience of practical research activities, formation
of a conscious leader of personal development;
2) development of emotional and value attitude to geographical knowledge;
3) formation of the ability to self-education, the critical and predictive thinking of the applicants.
In the context of the topics of the research work of the Geographical and Economic Education Department of the Institute of Pedagogy of the National Academy of Educational Sciences of Ukraine, which began in 2018 “Scientific and methodological provision for competence-oriented education of the economy and geographical courses of economic direction in the gymnasium and lyceum”, it is planned to experimentally verify the phased structure of knowledge systematization , proposed by S. Honcharenko, but in the new conditions of economic education. Phased systematization of knowledge will be carried out at the levels of:
1. fundamental scientific concepts and laws;
2. theories and principles;
3. methodological principles of geography and economics;
4. partial pictures of the world;
5. integration of individual pictures into a whole scientific picture of the world.
