Abstract
The article deals with the issue of applying competence approach to teaching the professional Ukrainian language for the foreign students of medical universities. The essence of this approach was clarified; its advantages were justified. In order to outline the ways to implement competence approach, the structure of professional medical communication was studied, and a set of communication skills that are necessary for the communication in typical situations of medical practice was identified. It was proved that listening and speaking skills, which are applied in speech activities at all stages and all kinds of interprofessional communication should be coordinated and reflected in the educational technology of forming communicative skills. The leading linguodidactic pronciples for the development of the model of professional skills of communication in Ukrainian by the foreign students of medical universities were formulated.
