Abstract

The article presents the methodological approaches implemented in the mathematics textbook of S. Skvortsova and K. Niedialkova for 6th grade students of general secondary education institutions. The two-part textbook is structured by chapters; the content of the chapters unfolds through a system of lessons, each of which reveals a certain topic. In this way, the author’s dynamic of content presentation is realized through increasing the level of complexity, i. e., the spiral movement is reproduced. The sections end with the rubrics “Checking our achievements” – an analogue of diagnostic work, and “Educational project”. The authors develop the content of the material taking into account the psychological and pedagogical principles of teaching mathematics, taking into account the peculiarities of children of the digital generation, in particular, the clip-like nature of their thinking. Educational material is presented in small portions, new content units are “woven” into the content of research tasks, which ensures learning through research in the absence of theoretical paragraphs. Instead, theoretical information is summarized and structured in the form of tables, notes, block diagrams. Training tasks are differentiated by three levels of difficulty. The task material, in combination with the theoretical background, provides the formation of subject mathematical and key competencies, which in turn implements an integrated approach. Project-based learning is realized through the completion by schoolchildren of projects on various topics: “Time Absorbers”, “Volunteer Activity”, “Journey along the Rivers of Ukraine”, “Ukrainian Borscht”. The innovation of the textbook is the updated plots of problems, which take into account the achievements of science and technology. Environmental and cultural competence, financial literacy are also actively formed due to the plots of the tasks. So, the textbook was created on the basis of the Concept of the New Ukrainian School.
