Abstract
The author analyzes didactic opportunities of foreign language school textbooks which are to foster the development of independent students’ academic work in the context of competency-based educational paradigm. Procedure, technology as well as outcomes of the suggested research are outlined in the article. Within the framework of this research the author conducted a monitoring of students’ educational performance and achievements in the process of which tasks typical for Spanish language textbooks (1st–11th form) were used. Evaluation was based on the scale of levels of students’ educational achievements suggested by the author. The results obtained in the process of the monitoring are represented with a diagram. The obtained data proved the capability of the foreign language textbooks to foster students’ independent acquisition of foreign language communicative skills.
