Abstract

This article highlights the potential of artificial intelligence (AI) technologies in teaching Ukrainian as a foreign language. The work analyzes sources from the past five years focused on AI technology and its application in education, both by domestic and international researchers. It examines the main challenges and issues that the development of AI technologies poses for the education system, such as academic dishonesty and ways to prevent it, the changes and impacts AI brings to society, particularly in the teaching profession, and the transformations in methods and styles of work for educators and methodologists. The article also discusses the opportunities AI opens up for educators, such as enhancing differentiated and individualized learning approaches, creating an inclusive environment for students with special needs (support and assistance for such students), providing extracurricular support and tutoring, automating the educational process, and assisting with administration, lesson planning, and results analysis. Additionally, it addresses the potential of ChatGPT in language learning, such as simulating live conversations, enriching vocabulary, practicing grammar with subsequent error analysis, and searching for texts and videos on specific topics. The article also considers the potential of AI for studying Ukrainian language and literature, such as recreating personalities of scientific and cultural figures for student interviews, creating artificial personalities for practicing professional and everyday communication skills, and more. The issue of academic integrity and the challenges posed by the development of artificial intelligence technologies are being raised. There is a need for the implementation of new forms and methods of control that can prevent instances of academic dishonesty: the advantage of oral examinations over other forms of assessment, conducting discussions with students on the topic of the assignment, requiring drafts of the assignment, and so on.
