Abstract
The article demonstrates the influence of the level of development of emotional intelligence on improving the success and efficiency of teaching students at the second (master’s) level of higher education. Emotional intelligence is an individual's ability to analyse his or her own emotions and to understand the emotions of other people. It is the ability to distinguish between different emotions and to label them correctly. Emotional intelligence shapes a person’s thinking and behaviour. Research on emotional intelligence is gaining popularity among psychologists, educators and specialists in related fields. An adequate level of emotional intelligence development is a prerequisite for improving the efficiency and success of the second (master’s) level of higher education. The development of emotional intelligence contributes to the improvement of students’ self-awareness and self-regulation, which in turn enables them to understand how their feelings affect their work, to make informed decisions and to perform academic tasks with confidence. Emotional intelligence is defined as the ability to recognise, analyse and manage one's own emotions and those of others, which is critical to personal success and well-being. Interpersonal communication skills are becoming increasingly important to employers alongside technical skills, making emotional intelligence a critical personal skill that needs to be systematically developed in students. Successful learning in today’s rapidly changing world depends not only on technical skills, but also on intangibles such as emotional intelligence and career orientation. The ability to recognise, understand and manage one’s own emotions and those of others has recently attracted considerable attention not only from academics but also from practitioners and professionals in various fields. A person’s commitment to their chosen career path and future workplace is reflected in their career orientation and diligence in their studies, which is also recognised as an important factor in determining students’ well-being and the effectiveness of their learning. Positive results and high academic performance are associated with emotional intelligence, which is the ability to recognise, understand and regulate one’s own emotions and those of others.
