Academic Integrity and Publication Ethics Policy

Academic Integrity Policy

The editorial board of the Ukrainian Educational Journal adheres to the principles of academic integrity and ethical standards of conducting scientific research. All research involving human participants, animals or their biological materials, as well as the use of personal or confidential data, must comply with the legislation of Ukraine and receive mandatory approval from an ethics committee.

Academic integrity in the preparation of a scientific article is ensured through compliance with the following principles:

The article must be written by the individual indicated as the author (or one of the co-authors) based on research conducted by that individual. Providing advice, technical or financial assistance, language editing, translation from a foreign language, or any other support that does not constitute conducting research and preparing the manuscript does not qualify for authorship. The generation of an article, in whole or in part, using artificial intelligence technologies does not constitute authorship. The inclusion of individuals who did not participate in the research and preparation of the manuscript as authors is unacceptable.

The article must present the results of original research and must not reproduce scientific knowledge previously published by the author(s). The use of the author’s previously published work is permitted only for the further development of the research and the formulation of new conclusions. Duplication of the same scientific content, including full reproduction of previously published material or its translation into another language, is unacceptable.

Any use of material from other sources must be accompanied by an appropriate reference. The use of borrowed material, whether in original or paraphrased form, without proper citation is unacceptable.

All sources of information must be reliable and include accurate bibliographic details. References to non-existent sources, as well as incorrect citation (e.g., incorrect author name, title, publisher, year of publication, or legal references), are unacceptable.

All data must be presented accurately and without distortion. The fabrication or falsification of data, selective omission of information, or any manipulation of data to fit the purpose of the article is unacceptable.

Each manuscript undergoes similarity checking against other texts. If multiple instances of overlap without proper citation are identified, the editorial board will request the author to provide appropriate references. If significant unattributed use of other authors’ work is detected, the manuscript will be rejected.

The editorial board verifies the sources cited in the manuscript. If incomplete or inaccurate bibliographic information is identified, the author will be asked to provide clarification. If references to non-existent sources are detected, depending on their number, the editorial board may request correction or reject the manuscript.

Publication Ethics

The scientific publication is guided by the Standards of leading international
associations COPE, WAME, DORA, which ensures high quality of publications and
transparency of scientific communication.

The editorial board of the Ukrainian Educational Journal adheres to the principles and recommendations of the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). The key principles of publication ethics to be followed by authors, editors, and reviewers are outlined below.

Authorship

Authorship should be limited to individuals who have made a significant contribution to the research (e.g., development of the concept, research design, or interpretation of results). The corresponding author must ensure that all co-authors are properly listed, have reviewed and approved the final version of the manuscript, and have agreed to its submission.

Originality and Duplicate Submission

Authors must not submit manuscripts that have been previously published. Submission of the same or substantially similar manuscript to more than one journal simultaneously is unacceptable.

Data Access and Retention

Authors may be required to provide the raw data underlying their research for editorial review and should be prepared to provide public access to such data where appropriate. Authors should retain these data for a reasonable period after publication.

Originality and Plagiarism

Authors must submit entirely original work. If the work or words of others are used, they must be appropriately cited.

Plagiarism in any form constitutes unethical and unacceptable behavior.

Acknowledgement of Sources

Authors must properly acknowledge all sources that have influenced their research.

All sources cited in the text must be included in the reference list. Information obtained from informal or non-public sources (e.g., personal communication, correspondence, discussions) should not be used.

Correction of Errors

If an author discovers a significant error or inaccuracy in a published article, they must promptly notify the editorial board and cooperate in correcting it. If the editorial board becomes aware of such an issue through a third party, the author must either correct the error or provide evidence supporting the validity of the original work.

Editors’ Responsibilities

Editors are responsible for maintaining the quality of published content, ensuring academic integrity, and supporting freedom of expression. They must strive to continuously improve the journal and ensure that commercial considerations do not compromise ethical standards.

Editors must act fairly, objectively, and without discrimination based on gender, sexual orientation, religious or political beliefs, or ethnic or geographical origin.

In cases of conflicts of interest, misconduct, or ethical complaints, editors must act in accordance with established procedures and policies. Authors must be given the opportunity to respond to any concerns raised. The editorial board must retain documentation related to such cases.

Editorial policies may be revised and updated as necessary to maintain high ethical standards.

Reviewers’ Responsibilities

Reviewers assist editors in making publication decisions and contribute to improving the scientific quality of the journal.

Reviewers must treat all manuscripts as confidential documents. They must not share, copy, or use unpublished materials without permission.

Reviewers should notify editors of any suspected plagiarism or duplicate publication.

Reviews must be conducted objectively and professionally. Personal criticism of authors is inappropriate.

Reviewers should decline to review a manuscript if they have a conflict of interest or if the manuscript falls outside their area of expertise.

Ethical Approval of Research

Research published in the journal must be approved by an ethics committee or the relevant research unit of the author’s institution.

Where human participants are involved, informed consent must be obtained in accordance with legal and ethical requirements.

Research must comply with the legislation of Ukraine and international ethical standards, particularly regarding the protection of human participants, animals, and confidential data.

Upon submission, authors must provide evidence of ethical approval and, where applicable, information on informed consent.

Authors bear full responsibility for compliance with ethical standards and for the accuracy of the data provided.
