Abstract
Globalization of the modern world, the strengthening of the role of international relations, the emergence of interest in national roots, the awakening of national consciousness of peoples, actualize the need for highly cultured modern specialists capable of professional activity in various sociocultural contexts. Within the requirements of state educational standards higher school continues to solve the problem of developing effective ways to implement the competence-based approach, which is associated with the tasks of finding the most effective forms and methods of teaching. There is a change in learning priorities, the cultural component is strengthened, and a new ideal of a student with general cultural competence appears.
The article provides an essential analysis and scientific and theoretical generalizations of the didactic potential of the Humanities for the formation of general cultural competence of students. It is obvious that the general cultural competence is directly dependent on the disciplines of the humanitarian cycle, aimed at studying the person, society, and culture as a whole. The disciplines of humanitarian cycle represent the unity of common cultural, social, moral, and professional development and self-education of the individual student regardless of the specific specialty, which requires from teachers a combination of subject knowledge and skills with the development of common cultural competence, which includes curriculum content, methods of teaching, requirements to results of mastering of knowledge.
In the article the author generalises the basic concepts, the role of modern education on the formation of general cultural competence of students, the place of value orientations and spirituality in cultural upbringing, refined essential-substantial characteristics of cultural competence, identified the meaning of pedagogical formation of general cultural competence of students of higher educational institutions.
The results of the research form a scientific and theoretical basis for further study of this issue. On the basis of the conclusions made, the author suggests the relevant directions for further research, namely, strategies for the development of general cultural competence of students of humanitarian specialties.
