Abstract

The article substantiates, taking into account the analysis of the retrospective and recent research, the possibility of maintaining the fundamentalization of the content of biological education in conditions of the implementation of the competence approach to the teaching of biology. The balance between cognitive and competence-based approaches is suggested. The competence approach to the construction of biological content in secondary school is developed, taking into account the correlation of cognitive, activity and value-oriented components of subject (biological) competence of pupils. Subject competence is closely connected with the socialization of an individual, determination of individual’s behavior in nature and society. The attention is focused on the fact that the result of studying of pupils should be their understanding the natural scientific picture of the world in the culture of technogenic civilization, understanding the integrity and value of living nature that is necessary for the socialization of an individual, determination of individual’s behavior in nature and society, aimed at preserving nature in general and wildlife in particular.
